North Carolina Built-in

Talk about dedication to getting what you want. The owners of this home had seen the work of Moulder & Craft and wanted one of Danny’s designs in their raised ranch in Raleigh, North Carolina. Before he even saw the space, they flew him out and he got to work.

Flanking either side of the existing fireplace were two voids in need of something to give the room some character and solve storage issues.

The unit is made with poplar and birch ply. The ends of the upper shelves slightly wrap the front of the face of the brick and are capped with walnut.

Acting as a dividing line of the custom piece, the mantel stretches from one side of the room to the other, broken in the middle by two walnut joints to give a slight visual detail.

The lower shelves also seem to float in the air just as the upper shelves, also capped with walnut and at the base, hidden compartments just for fun.

A very exciting job to dive into without a familiar shop, tools, measurements or design ideas given beforehand.
